What our guests say…
When we created our guesthouse, more than anything we wanted to create “a home away from home”, meaning we wanted to create an atmosphere in which our guests feel they can lean into ‘not doing’ all the time, and start ‘being’. That’s why we are beyond grateful when we read the feedback we receive from guests, mentioning that they found exacty that.

Love, attention en beauty.
That’s what I felt surrounded by during my stay, with a touch of magic.
Forever grateful!

Such an amazing location you guys have found in Norway. The ultimate destination to take a step back from the daily hassle and chaos and reflect. The peace and quiet, nature, the hikes and our conversations have all been of great value.

What an unforgettable and breathtaking place you have created and what a gift to have been able to stay here for four days. The light, silence and wide nature has created the same within me. I go home feeling lighter. With a quieter and more spacious mind.

Your home…
If you feel at home, you can relax. You can let go of all the doing and surrender to being.
Our spacious living room and open kitchen provide the perfect space to unwind. The large, wooden dinner table is the heart of the guesthouse and adds to the homely feeling.
Each of the four double-bedrooms has its own bathroom.
Enjoy a nourishing breakfast each day while you take in the stunning ocean views from the living room before you explore the untouched nature right outside the door.
You’ll feel right at home!
Away from home…
Above the Arctic Circle, light is something else.
The Arctic means 24h daylight in the summers and 24h ‘nighttime’ in the winters.
There are still many hours in the day during the winter light enough to go out without a headlamp and the glowing daylight often paints the skies with all colors imaginable.
Besides that, we of course have Lady Aurora visiting us whenever the skies are clear (and she feels like it).
Find out how to reach us below!
How to reach us
Even though the surroundings of our Nordlys Huset feel like you have reached the end of the world (in a good way), there are a lot of different ways you can reach us.
By plane
The closest airport is in the city of Bodø, which was chosen as the Cultural Capital of Europe in 2024 and is a great suggestion if you would like to add some city vibes to your trip.
From there you can either reach us by boat (the ‘Hurtigbåt), bus or car.
By public transport
Even though we don’t have a bus stop right outside, the option of (partially) using public transport is one to take into account.
You can travel to Bodø and Fauske by train, and from there you can travel by bus. The website https://www.reisnordland.no/ is a great help.
By boat
Getting here by boat (combined with other means of transport) is your best option.
The easiest way is to take the ‘Hurtigbåt’ from Bodø to Helnessund, which will take a little bit over an hour. Helnessund is just a 5 minute drive from the guesthouse. If you come by this fastferry, we’ll pick you up in the harbor!
As part of a bigger round trip
As we are really close to the “bucketlist destinations” the Lofoten in the North and the Helgelands’ Coastal route to the South, why not make the most of your journey and combine a couple of highlights in one trip?
By car
Whether you travel to us as part of a once in a lifetime roadtrip or you rent a car in Bodø (or Narvik), it surely is a wonderful way to get to experience Norway in a wider sense. The E6 connects Norway from North to South and gives a magical scenic experience
By bike
I mean… sure. You could! And if you wanted to, you can easily transport your bike on one of the ferries to help connect the dots on the map and make it doable.
Also, the page looked better with six icons instead of 5. Keeping it real.
Your hosts
We are Pieter & Annemieke, born and raised in Holland and migrated to Arctic Norway (of all places) in 2019. We decided to prioritise the actual ‘living’ part of life and with that we needed to reconsider all other priorities and obligations. We have been on the work-side, of the work/life balance and as much as we loved the jobs we had, we love the leisurepart at least as much and that wasn’t showing in time spent enjoying it.
Everytime we have guests, we love the part where we get to share how we got to create our dreams in real life: the creative and inspiring bits, but also what walls we ran (and run) into. It’s such a privilege to get to listen to the dreams and aspirations our guests have. We believe making them happen starts with saying them out loud, and sharing them.
Our Nordlys Huset, which is actually the Norwegian translation for the Dutch original name for our guesthouse “Het Noorder Lichthuis”, celebrates all light.
From the sun beaming in the middle of the night (something that will always be surreal for sure), to the irridicent light from Lady Aurora when she dances the night away.
But also the light we see in our guests’ eyes when they get to witness that mesmerising dance. We love that radiating light the feeling of awe generates. We love the beaming pride and joy our solo-traveling-guests experience when they dare to travel halfway around the world to experience Arctic Norway. And we love the bright, beaming joy of a newly formed community whenever we host groups.
